"The Eco-Schools programme is vitally important in shaping the Scotland we all want to see in the future"
Eco-Schools is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is an environmental management tool, learning resource and recognised award scheme.
We now have over 3,000 schools registered with the Eco-Schools programme in Scotland, which includes over 94% of Scotland's local authority schools. Over 23% of our local authority schools have attained the highest award level - the Green Flag.
Our headline quote was made in May 2008 by Maureen Watt, the then Minister for Schools and Skills, and further demonstrates the Scottish Government's committment to the Eco-Schools programme.
