Hi, We are interested in linking our school to an international school and are unsure about how to go about this. I've had a look on eco schools Scotland and ecoschools.org. Does anyone know where I can find more info or have information on how to get started? Thanks

Hi I am just posting this discussion to see how you have got eco involved in parent meetings and people who fund the school as this is a part of the green flag criteria and I would be very interested to know how you have achieved this and how did you present this.
Thanks |

Hi there everyone,
Just wondering how many groups have their own website up-and-running? We find it a great way to interact with staff, students and parents and have just invested in upgrading our site and email. www.greenmountchs.com If anyone has any ideas about what what works for them then please do send them on! We are always looking to make it better! Ro Greenmount Craigmount High School |

Hi
We're having our first green flag assessment in a couple of weeks and I'm a bit nervous about it. I'm confident we've done everything on the checklist but I'm struggling to get the kids to talk about it - looking for any advice on what kinds of things you did for your assessment visits. Thank you! |

I heard that there is a sheet with all the things that you need for your first green flag on it. Is this true? If it is, do you know where I can find it?
Thanks a lot, ecogirl |

Hello,
I am the Eco Schools co-ordinator at a Family Centre in East Renfrewshire and think it would be really valuable to 'buddy up' with another Eco school to exchange ideas and experiences. We are going after our third green flag and hope to apply for that in March this year. If anyone out there would like to buddy up, please respond. Many thanks, Donna |

We have recently been awarded our Green Flag, and are currently investigating ways to fly it safely. Ideally, we would like to fly it outside, but are concerned about local children (not our own, but local kids who hang around the school in the evenings) attempting to climb any flag pole we erect. Visions of broken bones and worse spring to mind!
Has anyone here had experience of this, has it been a problem, were you able to overcome the problem and how? Also, have you needed planning permission/building warrant? Who has actually erected the flag pole for you? How do ... more |

I have just taken over as eco coordinator in my school. The previous coordinator is on long term sick and before she went ordered a flag pole to fly our green flag. For various reasons the flag pole was never ordered and I am now trying to find out where we can buy one. I have spoken to a local school who have just spent £800 on one. I was thinking more of £100 for a wall mounted one so I was a little shocked by this!Does anyone know if there is a preferred supplier for schools and what the average costs are?
Any information would be helpful! Claire Thomson |

Calling friendly fellow Eco Teachers with 5 minutes to spare! (as if...)
I'm doing some research on a book for Eco teachers. Please, if you are interested in contributing via a 5 minute email survey, getting a mention in the credits and winning some Eco resources for taking part, contact Neil Fraser at nfraser@changeworks.org.uk NOW! Go on, it just takes a few seconds.... Thanks very much. |

Hi everyone,
We've now sent the new Eco-Schools Scotland Guide to all of our registered Scottish schools - and we'd love to know what you think of it. There are a few teething problems with some of the editable forms, which we hope to have these resolved in the next few days. We'll let everyone know when this has been done. Please feel free to tell us your thoughts on the format of the new Guide, whether you think the content is useful, and what you think could be included/improved for any future versions. We look forward to hearing from you! |

Can't help but notice what a huge difference there is between implementing Ecoschools in a primary school to what has to be done in a secondary school.
Working in a school of 1800 pupils, over 2 sites, with 2 very different sets of "challenges" and 2 very different ecoclubs demands a lot more admin/organisation and time. As well as this, our inspection has to take place when half our committee is on study leave due to the SQA exams - another problem primary schools do not have. I think the Ecoschools initiative is very impoortant but there doesn't seem to be as much funding availabl... more |

Does anyone have templates or examples of eco-policies that we could have a look at. No point in reinventing the wheel if we can adapt work already done.

Last week P5 pupils designed signs like the ones for the 8 topics.
We are really pleased with what they came up with and have them on display. Each class will now voice their opinion on the signs and we will eventually come up with the final version which we'll share with you. Isabel Lind |
