Appendix 2:
Creating an Action Plan

The following template is an example of an Action Plan for one Environmental Topic.  Your Action Plan for all investigated topics should look similar to the example, and must contain the following information:

Who is responsible for each action
Timescales and priorities
Any potential costs, help or resources that may be required
Details of monitoring and evaluation criteria

The Action Plan is a working document and should be regularly updated by the Eco Committee.  It should be displayed on your notice board so the whole school can see what is planned and the progress being made.
Make sure that your action plan is SMART:

Specific: Be clear about your objectives / goals.

Measurable (or at least assessable): What monitoring and evaluation processes  (e.g. Global Footprinting) will you put in place to know when you achieve your goals?

Achievable: Are the goals achievable? Are they compatible with each other? Have you included appropriate costings?

Realistic: Be realistic about the goals and the timescales.

Time specific: Be clear about when you want to achieve each goal; it is always possible to revise time scales if problems occur.
