Pupils were active in pursuing Eco-School activities such as litter picks, developing a school travel plan and recycling.

Aith Junior High School, Shetland - 2007
Pupils were developing responsible attitudes towards the environment through the Eco-School committee’s projects on recycling waste and composting in the school garden.

Armadale Academy, West Lothian - 2008
The school had been successful in gaining a Gold Award in Enterprise and an Eco Schools (Scotland) Silver Award, and several pupils had achieved awards from the John Muir Trust.

Bannerman High School, Glasgow - 2006
Pupils’ team-working skills were enhanced through working towards achieving a gold (ie Green Flag) Eco-School award and raising money for charities.

Bearsden Academy, East Dunbartonshire - 2007
Pupils developed a sense of responsibility through involvement in the school council or membership of various groups, for example, the Eco-schools group.

Pupils developed a sense of responsibility through successful fundraising events and involvement in the school council and Eco-Schools group.

Craigie High School, Dundee - 2006
These activities had led to the school being awarded the Diana Princess of Wales and the McManus awards for citizenship. The school had begun work on a recycling initiative as part of its work to achieve Eco-Schools status.

Dumfries Academy, Dumfries and Galloway - 2005

They were developing their appreciation of and care for the environment through the school’s participation in the ‘Eco-Schools’ initiative. They had participated successfully in the national ‘Equal Futures’ event as a response to challenging racism.

The Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh - 2006
Their citizenship skills were developed very well through, for example, working towards achieving Eco-School status in the junior school and taking part in a Young Enterprise scheme in the senior school. The junior school’s developing partnership with schools in Uganda was successfully developing pupils’ international citizenship skills.

Hillhead High School, Glasgow - 2008
Pupils ...were actively involved in a number of committees such as the Eco Schools, Health Promotion, Fair Trade, Enterprise, Equality and Charities committees... (the school) had recently achieved Eco School green flag status and all pupils were encouraged to support the school’s Eco principles.

Following registration as an Eco-School earlier this year, pupils were developing their awareness of global environmental issues. They had also gained insights into global issues through the work done in fundraising activities for charity, notably through links with schools in Africa.

Pupils’ citizenship skills which were being well developed through the school’s focus on international links, and Eco and Fair Trade activities. ...The junior and senior enterprise groups, and the Fair Trade and Eco groups were enabling pupils to gain a range of valuable skills in the area of enterprise.

The school had received a number of awards including Enterprise awards and an Eco-School Silver Award. Pupils were developing citizenship skills and were aware of the need to conserve and improve the environment through their eco-school activities.
