Longforgan Primary’s Action Plan is very clear, setting out exactly what the school intends to do, by when, where and by whom. All pupils in the school are surveyed every year about what should be included in the Action Plan, and staff, the Parent Forum, and local Councillor are also consulted. Monitoring and evaluation is undertaken by the Eco Committee to check and report on progress made in the different environmental areas being addressed.
Lunnasting Primary School is a small Shetland school and the first primary school in the UK to receive a Green Flag Award. The school has a long history of environmental action going back many years. All the children are involved and all sit on the Eco Committee. Every autumn, the school discusses the action to be carried out during the year. The Eco Code is reviewed and re-written if necessary. Continuing action on litter is discussed at the beginning of the year and any new actions to be undertaken on other issues are written into an Action Plan.
Dairsie Primary School’s Eco Committee has produced an eye-catching, pupil-friendly version of their Action Plan, which is displayed on their Notice Board and maintained by the pupils themselves. They created an 'Eco Tree' with 'branches' indicating the main action areas, e.g. school grounds. Each 'leaf' on the 'branch' represents an action, e.g. 'Install water butt in the school garden' and has a picture/words on it representing the action. The 'leaves' are then colour-coded to indicate the progress of each action – Red (action not started yet)/Amber (action underway)/Green (action completed)'. This approach has ensured that even the youngest children in the school are aware of the school's Eco-Schools projects.
Larbert High, in common with an increasing number of schools, built its Eco-Schools Action Plan into the overall School Development Plan. This allowed the school’s curriculum planners to ensure that the work done within the Eco-Schools programme closely matched National Priority 4 and the school’s own priorities within themes such as Ethos and Citizenship.
