Ailsa Nursery Centre, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire
Ailsa Nursery Centre in Motherwell held two Days of Action which proved to be so successful and enjoyable that they then extended this to a Week of Action. Each day of the Week focused on a different issue of their Eco-Schools programme; the order of which was the same as they appear in their Eco Code song.

Bullet Day 1 – We Eat Fruit & Veg to Keep us Strong (fruit and veg tasting, games, dental hygienist visited, menus home to parents about healthy eating)
Bullet Day 2  - Water is Precious – Don’t use a Lot (stories about water, saving water, message home to parents)
Bullet Day 3 – We Water the Plants & Feed the Birds (bird cake made, seeds hung out for birds, planting of seeds, art work)
Bullet Day 4 – We Put Rubbish in the Bin  (talk about litter, stories about rubbish & recycling, art with junk, litter survey of grounds)
Bullet Day 5 – When its Bright, Put Out the Light (saving energy, art, posters and signs about turning off lights, hanging washing out to dry, etc)

Muiredge Primary School, Uddingston, South Lanarkshire
The Eco Committee members make announcements at assemblies, are responsible for the Eco-Schools notice board, and report information to their classes. To spread the word further, it was decided that P7 representatives should form a publicity group and it was their responsibility to produce bi-monthly newsletters. The newsletters are issued to the families of the children in the school, to the local library and to the post office. The publicity group made flyers for the litter and waste group, which were distributed in some of the streets around the school to advertise the paper banks that have been installed in the school grounds. Flyers were distributed to local pubs and restaurants, encouraging everyone to recycle cans and bottles. The school’s Eco Code was copied by the publicity group and distributed to every class, as well as being placed on the main Eco-Schools notice board.

Mossbank Primary School, Mossbank, Shetland
Mossbank Primary has organised several Days of Action rather than one mammoth event. For example, the school takes part in ‘Da Voar Redd Up’– the ‘annual clean up’ of the islands, in School Grounds Week every year, and one year, took part in the ‘Trees of Time & Place’ Day. There has been a bulb-planting day, which also involved all the children in undertaking various environmental improvements in their grounds. Many local groups and businesses are involved in giving practical help and funds, such as the Shetland Amenity Trust, who helped to provide litter bins and can boxes for recycling.

Shawlands Academy, Glasgow City
Shawlands Academy has been involved in a number of activities to spread their Eco-Schools messages – and in several different languages! Shawlands Academy is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Scotland, and their Eco Committee have translated the school’s Eco Code into several of the main languages spoken by pupils. The Eco Committee have been heavily involved in COMENIUS projects with environmental themes, and performed a play in their local park on the subject of litter in French. They also organised an Eco Conference in their local community centre, to which many different environmental organisations - as well as pupils, staff and parents - were invited.   Shawlands Academy was awarded the first ever BT Greener Schools Award in 2008.
