The Eco Committee

The Eco Committee is the driving force of the Eco-Schools programme. Forming your own committee is the first step towards becoming an Eco-School.

An ideal committee will not just represent the whole school, but could also account for the views of the wider local community. Members could include:

bullet pupils from every stage - it is essential that pupils have a high representation on the committee
bullet a member of the senior management team (SMT)
bullet other teachers
bullet a parent or guardian
bullet non-teaching staff, e.g. the janitor, facilities manager, business manager, catering supervisor, or health education staff
bullet a representative from the local community
bullet a representative from a local environmental organisation
