The Seven Elements

Please note that the process is intended to be flexible enough to accommodate any school, and you should not, therefore, regard these guidelines as rigid rules. You can implement each step in the way that suits your school and situation best.

You must, however, have gone some way towards establishing each of the seven elements before applying for one of the three levels of Award. The type of Award you apply for will depend on how thoroughly you have established each element. To give you an idea of the level you have reached, take a look at the criteria for achieving the Bronze, Silver and Green Flag categories of the Eco-Schools Award.

Implementing each stage of the process will give you plenty of opportunities to make links to the curriculum.
