The Eco-Schools objectives in this area are:

for pupils and teachers to understand that by reducing, reusing and recycling their waste they are contributing to the National Waste Plan: Scotland |

to raise awareness of what schools can do to prevent waste from going to landfill |

to reduce, reuse, recycle (the three R’s) waste whenever it is feasible and beneficial |
 |
to appreciate the financial as well as the environmental benefits of waste prevention and recycling activities |

to work with the local community in raising awareness and facilitating waste prevention, reuse and recycling, whenever possible. |
Through work on waste prevention, reuse and recycling, pupils should be able to:

name a range of materials and where they come from |

discuss decomposition and nutrient transfer |

collect, interpret and present data in different forms, using ICT, where appropriate |
 |
make presentations on strategies to reduce, reuse and recycle and prevent waste to different audiences, such as pupils, teachers and parents |

work cooperatively with others. |
